“It Put Words to What I Couldn’t Identify”: Dina’s Story

Nobody hands you a map for retirement. You prepare the money, you mark the last day on the calendar — and then comes the part no one warned you about: the wide-open quiet, and feelings you can’t quite name.

Dina Pangborn knows that quiet. A member of Legacy Church, she’d already been living the transition when she attended the Ignite My Retirement seminar. What she found there wasn’t a pep talk. It was a vocabulary.

“This really helped open my eyes to a lot of the stages that I’ve been through as I’ve retired. It put words to what I couldn’t identify. I knew what I was feeling — I didn’t know how to identify it.”

Then came the relief so many attendees describe: “It was literally a season that’s normal — that’s typical — that people go through. And that has helped me.”

There’s real freedom in that discovery. The lost feeling after the last day of work isn’t a personal failure. It’s a season — one with a name, a shape, and a way through. And naming this season makes it easier to face the ones still coming.

“Even looking forward, knowing there’s going to be other seasons ahead yet to face — whether it be health issues or other concerns that will take place over the years,” Dina said, the seminar gave her a frame for those too.

Her summary of what changed:

“It really has helped to bring a bigger picture to what retirement is — being purpose-driven and active and vibrant through this change.”

Purpose-driven. Active. Vibrant. Not words our culture usually attaches to retirement — but exactly the words God does.
